Moon Phases for the Coming WeekFrom The Old Farmer's Almanac
By Ember Hernandez
Many companies try to keep up with the times and be proggressive, but most of their tries are either utterly racist, or the backlash becomes too much. For example, “A survey conducted after Floyd’s killing by Morning Consult LLC, a data analysis firm, found that about two-thirds of Americans from Generation Z, the sought-after cohort of high schoolers and college students, said the way corporations and their brands reacted to the BLM movement would permanently affect their future purchasing patterns.”( quote taken from BloomBerg BusinessWeek.)
Some brands, of course, have been backlashed at for their tries. Righteous Gelato added a BLM gelato to their collections of flavours, and then quickly pulled it back down after getting thousands of complaints. PrettyLittleThing, on online seller, has the same issue after releasing a photo of dark black and light peach-colored hands, clenched together upon text saying “Stand Together”. Many people said it was rude to show the black community as that jet black color, as an unlikely hue, while the white community represented as the lighter colored hand, was a very likely tan color.
B&J’s acts are more subtle, yet very progressive. In 2008, they released Imagine World Peace flavor, mixed with caramel, vanilla, and chocolate.
“If we share values on climate, same-sex marriage rights, racism, I think that’s a deeper bond than sugar and fat," Ben Cohen, co-founder of B&J’s

Ben and Jerry’s started in the 1980’s, with Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, who were best friends since elementary school. Many people loved their flavours, for their sweet taste, but that’s one of the issues: some of the people only buy this for the sugar. The founders make money on something obsessively unhealthy. Of course, this is a proud and productive company, and millions support their every stride.
