Classic Article:Russia

By Antoinette Durand

Russia, or the Russian Federation, is a European country located in Eastern Europe with a vast expanse of territory that stretches across Northern Asia.

The white color symbolizes nobility and frankness, the blue for faithfulness, honesty, and impeccability, and red for courage, generosity and love.

The Russians had a monarchy, and the leader was called a tsar (zar) or king in English. World War I came, and many people blamed the tsar for entering the war and killing 2 million Russians. There was unrest in the people and they rioted.
The tsar had to abdicate or give up his throne. A new government rose without the tsar.

For a few months, this government ruled the people. A man, Vladimier Lenin thought Russia should have a communist government. From 1918 to 1920, there was a civil war between people who thought communism was right and people who were against communism.

The communists won, and the USSR was born. The tsar and his family were shot on July 17, 1918.

People in Russia start school at age 6 and their basic general education stops 11 years later.

Russia relies on energy revenues to drive most of its growth. Russia has an abundance of oil, natural gas and precious metals, which make up a major share of Russia's exports. As of 2012, the oil-and-gas sector accounted for 16% of GDP, 52% of federal budget revenues and over 70% of total exports.

The ruble is subdivided into 100 kopecks. 1 Ruble is worth about 46 cents.

The religion in Russia is diverse with Christianity, especially Russian Orthodoxy being the most widely professed faith, but with significant minorities of non-religious people and adherents of other faiths.

The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, commonly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is a church in Red Square in Moscow, Russia and is regarded as a symbol of the country.Add—The building is now a museum. It was built from 1555 to 1561 on orders from Ivan the Terrible.

It’s best to travel to Russia from May to October. Remember that some museums and churches might refuse admission if knees or shoulders aren’t covered. Men shouldn’t wear shorts. It takes between 13 to 16 hours to fly to Moscow. Enjoy Russia!

Jobs in Decline

By Antoinette Durand

This is from Work+Money, a website I found via CNN's website. According to the author of "The Robots are Coming:A Human's Survival Guide to Profiting in the Age of Animation," John Pugliano, jobs like travel agent, lawyer, and manager won't be around forever. Many things will be decided by AI and computers.

The bottom line is to consider your career carefully. I suggest reading this article in full. It's really full of insight.

President Trump's Opinion on the Pandemic

By Antoinette Durand

In the President's latest rally, a 20,000-person-crowd of people were "packed together," according to CNN. This rally was a pronounced example of his denial of any sort of new normal life.

"His attitude is coinciding with tangible public fatigue after weeks of stay-at-home orders and restrictions on where people can travel, eat and socialize. And it suits him, with his reelection campaign in cold storage for weeks, to leave the impression that the country has already prevailed," according to CNN.

I'll close with a quote from the man himself because its important to know his own opinion.

If we stopped testing now, we'd have very few cases, actually.
What do you think of our President?
