Stress-Relieving Activities

By Ember Hernandez

For when you’re stressed about some things, here are activities to calm you down.

Color and chill. Coloring distracts you, and at least makes you feel accomplished when you’re finished. I recommend an app called Colorfy.

You can’t actually go to the beach, so why not fill up a kiddie pool with water, and play soothing sounds for background noise.

  • Focus on things outside your house. You’ll feel better.
  • Watch a movie, maybe something that doesn’t make you tense.
  • Cook or bake something for you. Baking helps relax the mind.Think about what you’re thankful for.
  • Taking a moment to focus on what you’re grateful for can help you feel less anxious and depressed almost immediately.
Research suggests that the best way to do this is to write a list of things you’re thankful for and then read it back to yourself.

Poem: Crossing the Bar

By Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Sunset and the evening star,

And one clear call for me!

And may there be no moaning of the bar,

When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound or foam,

When that which drew out from out the boundless deep

Turns again home.

Twilight and the evening bell,

And after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness of farewell,

When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place

The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my pilot face to face

When I cross the bar.
