Movie Review: Groundhog DayBy Antoinette Durand
This movie stars a self-absorbed weatherman, Phil, coming to report on if the groundhog sees its shadow. Mysteriously, he repeats Groundhog Day over and over again.
Even though this movie is very funny and light-hearted, Phil attempts suicide serveral times. It shows dome kissing. OVerall, Groundhog Day is family friendly.
Companion News!
By Ember Hernandez
Quarantine has had a positive effect on animal shelters! Since no one can really do anything, people have been adopting more and more animals. More than 90 animal shelters have been emptied! If you want a cuddly companion as well, make sure to support your local no-kill shelters.
Dogs are being trained to sniff out the COVID-19 virus! “ Dogs can smell certain levels of hormones within the virus that we can’t.”, says anonymous vet. “ It might take a while, but the signal is to bark repeatedly if smelt on someone.”
Here’s your unlikely animal friends: Ronnie the dachshund, and Fluff the hedgehog. Fluff would hitch a ride on top of her furry friend and eat Ronnie’s food too! Ronnie was untrusting of anyone before she met Fluff, who was surprisingly calm and soothing. Sadly, Fluff has passed away, but thanks to her, Ronnie’s able to make friends.
And lastly, the new video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, has been released! Try out this game if you can.
Ways To Unwind And Enjoy Your Summer
By: Ember Hernandez
Books are a great way to be taken away from all of your issues. I’ve been binging on books for weeks, so here are the greatest finds I’ve read. Star Crossed by Barbra Dee is a great mix of Shakespeare and love between two young girls. It highlights the “funny part” of 6th grade love. The Singing Bones, made by famous artist Neil Gaiman, has tidbits of fairy tales and beloved sculptures. SnapDragon is a beautiful story about a girl becoming a witch, with breathtaking art. And finally, The Strangers is about three siblings entering an alter dystopian world to find their mother.
Personally, I love to draw. It expresses people in a way words can’t. Filling sketchbooks is good therapy for anyone who wants to let out their stress. I’ve been using real-life objects included in my drawings. Never say you can’t draw, because that means you can’t see beauty in your art.
Okay, I’ll admit it. I have been watching more T.V. I suggest nature documentaries like Wild New Zealand, Our Earth, Nature In It’s Strange Way, and Unlikely Animal Friends. Suggest a family movie night if you can. Get all cozy, whether you’re watching mystery or magic.
Birdwatch! Common birds around Illinois are chickadees, sparrows, robins, and cardinals. But if you put up a birdfeeder, you might be lucky enough to see songbirds, goldfinches, or even crows! ( if you add certain nuts, like almonds and cashews).
I suggest listening to music while snuggling in your bed. I love Linsey Sterling and her violin songs. And, if you have an instrument, go ahead and play! I know you will get lost in your own music. And, of course, remember to read The Humans Tribune!
Book Recommendation: The Uglies
By Antoinette Durand
Uglies by Scott Westerfield is about Tally Youngblood, aged fifteen, almost sixteen. In this dystopian society three hundred years in the future, beauty is all that matters. When a citizen turns sixteen, they undergo an operation to make them biologically gorgeous. Huge, sparkly eyes, symmetrical face, perfectly proportioned body.
Tally makes a new friend, Shay. Shay wants to run away from the city to the mysterious Smoke, a civilization of Uglies, or people who haven’t been operated on yet.
Shay runs away to the Smoke. It’s Tally’s job to get her back, or she will be an Ugly forever.
This is a book of self-discovery and acceptance. I highly recommend it.
