Things Will go Back at Some Point
Remember that this will end eventually. Think and plan what your first day back to society will be like. Try to stay okay, if not for you, for the society that needs you, and all of your wonderful thoughts. Stay okay.
The Drummer that Was Neatly Forgotten
By Phillip Collins
If you lived during the 50s or 60s, you’d know the name of the iconic rock band: The Beatles. In the course of 10 years, they made 13 studio albums which sold billions worldwide combined. Their Anthology collection captured the attention of many Beatles fans in the 90s, and the 2000 compilation album 1 was a best-seller. But before fame, The Beatles were known as The Quarrymen, a group of four individuals from Liverpool. Those four individuals were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best. Three of them remained in the band. One was replaced. This is the story of the drummer that was nearly forgotten.
Before getting to the main concept, you have to go back to the earliest years of The Beatles’ development, when the band was still dubbed as The Quarrymen. This takes us back to 1957, when John Lennon first met Paul McCartney and the band was “touring” around Liverpool. The main members were Lennon, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe, a guitarist for the band at the time. Fast forward a year, where McCartney introduces Lennon to life-long friend George Harrison, who would join the band. Finally, fast forward to 1960. This was the year that The Quarrymen were renamed to The Beatles and the band started their life-changing 10-year span of a career. By now, Sutcliffe had left the band, leaving only Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Best.
Two years later. The year that The Beatles would release their first album. Brian Epstein is hired as manager. Pete Best, the current drummer, is to be replaced by current drummer of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Richard Starkey (also known as Ringo Starr). Finally, on August 16, 1962, Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Starr and so started the legacy of The Beatles.
Pete Best is still living today at 78. In 1988, he formed his own band, The Pete Best Band, which is still around today. The Beatles went on to become one of the greatest rock bands of all time. And Stuart Sutcliffe, former guitarist of The Quarrymen, unfortunately passed away in 1962.
That concludes the story of the drummer that was nearly forgotten. Best dedicates his life to The Beatles’ early music, as his band continues to perform early recordings. After he left The Beatles, most people centered their attention on Ringo Starr and not on Pete Best. It wasn’t until after their breakup that he was being recognized for his appearance in The Beatles and in other bands.

Siblings are everywhere. We have to substitute home for restaurants, schools, and libraries. They are everywhere all the time. How do we deal with them?
One good way is to do something they like for half an hour. Break down and play barbies, cars, or a board game with them. Go ‘exploring’ with them in the backyard.
Try exposing them to something that you like. Read them a book that you like. The most important part is to enjoy the time you share. Just try not to drive eachother crazy.

How Solitary Confinement Affects Prisoners
80,000 prisoners are in solitary confinement in the US alone. This usually means that they’ll be themselves in their cell for 23 hours per day. Solitary is used to prevent dangerous inmates from injuring staff or other inmates. It can also be used to prevent escape or punish inmates for wrongdoing in prison.
Even though solitary confinement has been used in prisons across the United States, there is now a debate on its effectiveness for rehabilitation .”The majority of research suggests a wide range of psychological and physiological effects…” according to Applied Psychology Opus.
The State with the most solitary inmates is Louisiana, with 15% of the 80,000 prisoners in solitary confinement (8,942 people). 29% of people spend one to three months in solitary confinement. 5% spend more than six years in solitary confinement.
“Solitary has been linked to a range of psychological problems, including depression, hallucinations, self-harm and suicide.” Solitary confinement usually starts at 30 days, but it’s not uncommon for it to last years or decades.
